Healthy Kids Running Series
Here’s a fun way to get your kids moving! Registration for the Healthy Kids Running Series is now open.
HKRS is a national organization that inspires kids (ages 2-14) to race towards a healthier lifestyle, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The local chapter (Andover/Tewksbury) is run by two MUMS, Katie Whitney and Nichole Haynes.
The series begins on April 28. Kids enrolled will participate in a five-week program with age-appropriate race distances. Kids compete each week for a chance to earn points, and at the end of the Series, the top boy and girl with the most points in their respective age division earn a trophy. All participants receive a finishers medal, race bag and Healthy Kids Running Series T-shirt for their achievements. The cost for the five-week program is $35.
“Healthy Kids Running Series is designed to get kids active, build self-esteem and lay the foundation for a healthy lifestyle. The most rewarding part is seeing young boys and girls and their families gather each week to compete and achieve their goals and celebrate with their friends.”
Jeff Long, Founder of Healthy Kids Running Series
About the local coordinators:
Katie began running in High School when she did track, but really didn’t get back into it until after College. Since then, Katie has done many 5Ks, Half Marathons and 4 Marathons (Disney ’05, Boston ’06, Disney ’07, Boston ’09) and has also done many Sprint Triathlons and 2 Half- Ironmen. Katie and her husband Jon really enjoy doing races together or bringing the kids to cheer each other on. Katie, who resides in Andover, MA, balances being a full time mom to her kids Tyler, Dylan and Kayla while working full time as a Material Program Manager at Raytheon and racing with family and friends throughout the
year. Katie’s kids have been active runners in the Healthy Kids Running series since 2015.
Growing up, Nichole was always more interested in the arts than in sports and only started running as a way to get back in shape after having her two boys. Since then she has found a love for the “fun run” between being a full time mom, wife and Executive Producer at Bose Corporation. She has enjoyed many races with friends and family including the Walt Disney World Half Marathon, BAA Half Marathon and the FeasterFive in her hometown of Andover, MA. Nichole’s sons have been active runners in the Heathy Kids Running series since 2015.
